Story of Allen
As a boy on the Queensland coast, Petey had one friend who mattered more than any other. That friend was Allen, an alien, and he left suddenly without explaining himself.
Years later Petey is an adult who still measures life against that lost friendship. When Allen turns up again, the reunion is awkward, joyful and complicated, because Allen is hiding something big enough to change the world.
To help, Petey will have to stop looking backwards and finally grow up. That is the heart of the film: a friendship story first, with the alien plot as the engine.
Petey

Themes Explored
Childhood friendship
The film asks what happens to the friends we lose touch with, and whether they ever stop mattering.
Growing up
Petey’s arc is about leaving nostalgia behind without losing what it meant.
Secrets and trust
Allen’s secret tests whether an old bond can survive new truths.
Wonder
Netflix tags the film as imaginative and heartfelt, and the trailer leans on that sense of wonder.
Allen Age Rating & Parents Guide
Netflix lists Allen as TV-14 in the United States, which means it may not suit children under 14 without a parent’s guidance. Netflix has not yet published a detailed content advisory, and no rating for India or Australia is listed yet.
The trailer looks gentle, with fantasy peril rather than graphic content. Suitable for ages 14+ going by the current rating, though many families will likely watch it together with younger teens.
Release Date & Where to Watch
Allen streams on Netflix from November 12, 2026. You need a Netflix subscription and the film will be available wherever the service operates.
Should You Watch It? Our Verdict
Verdict: Worth a try. The premise is charming and the team behind it has a strong record with family audiences.
This verdict is based on the trailer and the makers’ earlier work, as the film has not been reviewed yet. The friendship hook is emotional, and the Queensland setting gives it a fresh look.
The risk is tone. A story that mixes alien secrets with grown-up regret can feel uneven, so wait for first reactions if you are unsure.
Watch it if you like:
- E.T.-style tales of an alien friend
- nostalgic coming-of-age films
- Bluey’s warm, funny storytelling
Skip it if:
- you want hard sci-fi or action
- gentle, sentimental stories are not for you
Final Thoughts
