Possible Love arrives on Netflix on November 6, 2026, and it marks the long-awaited return of South Korean director Lee Chang-dong. It is his first feature since Burning in 2018, and it reaches the streaming service after a short run in select cinemas beginning October 23.
The Possible Love Netflix film is a slow-burning relationship drama about two married couples from very different worlds. When their lives cross, buried feelings and quiet resentments start to surface, and nobody’s marriage looks quite the same afterwards.
Below you’ll find the release date, the cast and their characters, what the final trailer reveals, and a parents guide to the film’s adults-only rating.

Official Trailer Breakdown
The final trailer for Possible Love keeps its cards close. Instead of big plot reveals, it lingers on glances, half-finished conversations and the uneasy silence between people who know they shouldn’t be getting closer.
We see a working-class family under strain after a layoff, a comfortable household on the other side of town, and a camera that brings the two together. The editing cuts between everyday routines and moments of temptation, hinting that the real drama is happening under the surface.
Key moments in the trailer:
- a funeral where the two couples first meet
- a documentary camera following a laid-off worker’s wife
- a growing friendship between Mi-ok and the filmmaker Ye-ji
- Mi-ok’s uneasy attraction to Ye-ji’s husband, Sang-woo
- the cracks spreading through both marriages

Story of Possible Love
Mi-ok lives a modest life with her husband Ho-seok and their young son, Cheol. Ho-seok has recently lost his job, and the family is quietly trying to hold things together while money gets tighter.
Across the city, Ye-ji and her husband Sang-woo enjoy a far more comfortable life. Ye-ji is a documentary filmmaker working on a project about workers who have been laid off, which is how her path crosses with Mi-ok’s family after the two couples meet at a funeral.
Mi-ok agrees to be filmed, and the project draws the two women together. At the same time, she finds herself drawn to Sang-woo, a man who is hard to read and seems to want something he never says out loud.
As the documentary goes on, both households begin to feel the pressure. The film is less about what happens and more about what each character wants and refuses to admit.
Meet the Cast
The Possible Love Netflix cast brings together four of South Korea’s best-known screen actors:
- Jeon Do-yeon as Mi-ok, the wife of a laid-off worker
- Sul Kyung-gu as Ho-seok, Mi-ok’s husband
- Cho Yeo-jeong as Ye-ji, the documentary filmmaker
- Zo In-sung as Sang-woo, Ye-ji’s husband
Jeon Do-yeon previously worked with Lee Chang-dong on Secret Sunshine, the role that won her Best Actress at Cannes, so this reunion is one of the film’s biggest talking points.
Behind the Camera
Lee Chang-dong is one of the most respected filmmakers in Korean cinema, known for Green Fish, Peppermint Candy, Secret Sunshine and Burning. He works slowly and has said he only starts a film once he is sure what it means to him and to audiences, which helps explain the eight-year gap since his last feature.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and was then chosen as South Korea’s official Oscar entry in the International Feature Film category for the 99th Academy Awards.
Themes Explored
Hidden Desire
Almost every character wants something they can’t say aloud, and the tension comes from watching those feelings leak out.
Class and Money
The contrast between a family worried about rent and a family that never has to think about it shapes every interaction.
Who Gets to Tell the Story
Ye-ji’s documentary raises an uncomfortable question: is she helping Mi-ok be seen, or using her life as material?
Marriage Under Pressure
Both marriages look stable from the outside, and the film slowly shows how little it takes to unsettle them.
Possible Love Age Rating & Parents Guide
Possible Love is rated A (adults only) on Netflix in India, and South Korea’s ratings board also classified it for adults only. The board’s reason was direct depictions of nudity and sexual activity.
What parents should know:
- Sexual content and nudity: shown on screen, not just implied
- Themes: infidelity, money worries after job loss, emotional manipulation
- Violence: nothing significant has been reported
- Language: some strong language is possible but not a focus
Our guidance: suitable for ages 18+. It isn’t a family watch, and the slow pace and long runtime make it a better fit for viewers who enjoy patient, adult dramas.
Release Date & Where to Watch
Possible Love opens in select theaters on October 23, 2026, and starts streaming worldwide on Netflix on November 6, 2026. Netflix films usually go live at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time (1:30 p.m. IST) on release day.
Should You Watch It? Our Verdict
Verdict: Watch it, if you have the patience for a long, quiet drama. Early buzz: 8.4/10 (4.2 out of 5 on the Venice Film Festival critics’ panel, the highest of its competition films at the time).
This verdict is based on the trailer, Lee Chang-dong’s earlier films and the reviews from Venice, since Possible Love isn’t on Netflix yet. Critics at The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Screen International praised the cast and the way the film handles class, desire and old wounds. The Guardian was more mixed, calling parts of it self-conscious and unsure of its tone, while still admiring how fluid it feels.
Lee rarely misses, Jeon Do-yeon is reuniting with the director who gave her a career-defining role, and the premise gives four strong actors a lot to play with. The trade-off is time: at roughly two and three-quarter hours, it asks for your full attention.
Watch it if you like:
- Burning or Secret Sunshine
- slow-burning relationship dramas
- films about class and money in modern Korea
Skip it if:
- you want a fast, plot-driven story
- you’d rather avoid explicit sexual content
Final Thoughts
With a director who rarely makes films, a cast led by Jeon Do-yeon and an Oscar submission behind it, Possible Love is one of the most anticipated international releases on Netflix this November. If you liked Burning or quiet, character-driven dramas, add it to your list for November 6.
